The year 2016 was a doozy.
With 365 days of a rollercoaster making their way to the rearview, Alamo Drafthouse and Independence Brewing Co. are proud to introduce a warm, malty way to close out the tumultuous year that was. Introducing “End Credits 2016,” a limited batch chocolate hazelnut porter, and the first-ever collaboration between the two Austin-grown companies. The big-flavored winter warmer is available now at Alamo Drafthouse locations across Texas and will pour throughout the season while supplies last.
This year was ‘memorable’ to say the least, between Bowie, Prince and a neverending Presidential fist fight we felt it important to send it off with a bang -- like, light it on fire and back away slowly kind of bang. Working with our long-time pals at Independence to craft a perfect ‘you made it through 2016’ beer was a real pleasure -- and truly the very least we could do.
Jokes aside, “End Credits 2016” is seriously big on flavor, a full-bodied wintertime brew perfect for sipping while the final days of the year unspool… and for toasting the start the next. We are stoked for you to try it.
"Our brewery’s first-ever porter started with a blend of British chocolate and crystal malts for a balanced, chocolate and toffee character,” explains Independence Head Brewer, Brannon Radicke. “We kicked that already rich, subtle sweet flavor up a notch with the addition of Ghana cocoa nibs and hazelnut. The finishing touch was black malt for roast and flaked barley for extra body and mouthfeel. It’s everything you could want in a porter, and then some."
While “End Credits 2016” marks the first formal collaboration between our two companies, we are longtime mutual supporters. Ever since Independence Brewing opened their doors in 2004, Alamo Drafthouse has been pouring the company’s beers at locations across Texas, while the label design of the brewery’s flagship beer, Austin Amber, even gives a nod to Alamo Drafthouse’s iconic sign.
Collaborating and having a hand in brewing this limited batch brew was the best possible way to end this year. Well, other than gulping the sweet, roasty finished product and saying ‘here’s to 2017!’
