Inspired by Mexican-style hot chocolate, whose origins predate the Mayan civilization. The patron god of cacao orchards in the classical Mayan pantheon of gods, God L (and later Ek Chuaj), was often depicted wearing a jaguar pelt. Chacmools Cacao was seen as a metaphor for the human heart with the seeds spilling out of the cacao pot being like blood spilling out of the human body.
